Will getting my chimney swept make my house dirty?

Having your chimney swept is not the messy job it once was. I always lay sheets down to protect the floor in my working area. Part of the sweeping process is to firmly seal the fire opening to prevent soot escaping into your home. I also use a highly efficient vacuum while sweeping to minimise any exposure to soot.

What do I need to prepare before my chimney is swept?

To prepare for your chimney sweep appointment you should ensure there is a clear space in front of the fireplace/woodburner and that any valuable or precious items are moved from the area before the appointment time.

Is getting my chimney swept every year really necessary?

Having your chimney swept every year will significantly reduce the risk of a chimney fire. Deposits left in flues can build up and lead to blockages and create both fire and carbon monoxide risks.
