Changing Mindsets - SOSE X Fuel Change Challenge nnA team from CSY (Matthew, Tatenda, Sheena) and Roxburghe Estates (Floors Castle) have been involved in the SOSE X Fuel Change Challenge. A challenge set by South of Scotland Enterprise and Fuel Change to construct a sustainable solution for tackling current issues in the south of Scotland addressing the following themes: Energy, Textiles, Food and Farming, Forestry and Building Homes. nnThere is currently a shortage of 100,000 homes in Scotland with potential to increase if no action is taken. The construction industry is responsible for 39% of global carbon emissions. Demand is increasing to make buildings and housing more sustainable, with longer life cycles to reduce the impact on climate change. This means we need to change the way we do things. nnWe showcased an unconventional solution that proposed building on floodplains; areas of land which tend to be avoided, abandoned and left derelict. The idea was to also improve the concept of community and better connect adjacent towns in the South of Scotland. Following feedback from a judging panel, we were invited to showcase our ideas to industry professional this week.
