A recent project in Baldock, Hertfordshire, involved restoring a limestone floor that had accumulated multiple layers of topical sealer. These layers had trapped ingrained dirt within the tiles and grout lines, giving the floor an unnatural orange tint. To address this, a solvent stripper was used alongside a high-quality alkaline cleaner. The layers of sealer were hand-scraped as thoroughly as possible, followed by multiple cleaning sessions with diamond abrasive powder and an alkaline solution. Once all the sealer was removed, the floor was honed with diamond abrasive pads and sealed with a quality impregnating sealer that allows the stone to breathe naturally. This process left the floor with a silky matte finish. An additional two days are scheduled to complete the transformation and finalize the restoration of the limestone floor.
