Pippy Oak Console Tables At John Beavan Bespoke Cabinetmakers, we were tasked with creating a pair of unique and elegant console tables for a two narrow hallways. Our process began with presenting a sketched proposal to our clients, offering a selection of timbers suitable for these bespoke pieces. Given the narrowness of the hallways, we suggested creating a prototype to provide a full visualisation of the design in the exact proportions before finalising the commission. After reviewing the prototype and making minor adjustments, we commenced the construction with confidence in the approved design. Curved forms were constructed to hold the cores in place, allowing us to shape the tables precisely. We sandwiched several layers of core materials with pippy oak veneer on the facing sides. These were then placed over the forms, vacuum-pressed, and left to cure for 24 hours. Once the pieces were assembled, we created a template for the glass. The edges were chamfered to follow the console's curves, ensuring every design aspect was meticulously considered. This attention to detail is what makes our bespoke pieces unique. Each component received multiple fine coats of clear lacquer, enhancing the distinct pippy oak, also known as cat’s paw oak, which features small clusters of knots.
