Damp Survey on Solid Floors: This 1920s property has undergone remedial work for damp in the past but this has failed to resolve the problem. Dampness is affecting the wall/floor joint. A concrete floor was installed some years ago to replace a timber suspended floor (external air bricks are still in place) likely in an attempt to address the damp. This concrete floor extends over the slate DPC and, while a DPM may have been incorporated, it has not prevented damp and has in fact created rising damp. My advice to the client was to grub up the existing concrete floor and install a new treated timber suspended floor as well as replace the existing sub-floor air bricks. This will reintroduce a ventilation gap beneath the floorboards, prevent direct contact between the floor structure and potential ground moisture and allow for the evaporation of any moisture present.
