Air trapped in your radiator means you all need to bleed it. You will know if this is the case if your radiator is cold at the top, the entire radiator is cold, or it is making a rattling sound.

Here are some straightforward steps for bleeding your radiator: Turn on your heating and wait for all your radiators to heat up. Examine each radiator to ensure an even temperature across its surface (exercise caution when touching). A radiator that feels cold or emits noise likely requires bleeding. Turn off your heating and allow the radiators to cool down. Position an old towel or another absorbent material (not your partner's favourite onesie) beneath the radiator bleed valve to catch any water. Open the valve, typically located at the bottom of your radiator, to release the air. Close the inlet and outlet at each end, then remove the screw from the valve's centre. Insert the radiator key into the bleed valve and slowly turn it anti-clockwise. You should hear a hissing sound as the air escapes. When the hissing stops and water starts to leak out, turn the key clockwise to close the valve. Check the boiler pressure for each radiator that requires bleeding. If the boiler pressure is too low, you must repressurise the system. If the pressure is normal, you can switch on your heating and verify that your radiators are heating up.

You can typically find a water pressure gauge at the front of your boiler. Older boilers often feature a hydraulic pressure gauge, which includes red sections on the dial indicating low and high pressure.
