Is it safe for the environment to have air conditioning?
Regularly maintained, modern air conditioning systems are completely safe. By law systems need to be maintained by a qualified engineer once a year. This ensures that gases remain intact, and filters stay clean. Read more about air conditioning
Why are the R22 laws changing?
R22 is the gas which is most damaging to the atmosphere's ozone layer, which means excessive UV rays reach the earth, increases global warming, and may contribute to further environmental damage. Even though the law doesn't change until 2015, many companies are moving away from this harmful gas now.
Will I have to change my whole air conditioning system?
New systems have already begun using the R22 alternatives, so those which still rely on R22 are already being affected by natural wear and tear. At Conditioned Air Technology we have been advising customers over the last several years to begin replacing worn parts with components which will work in the new systems, rather than going to the expense later of retro-fitting compliant parts to an obsolete system. What's a Seasonal Efficiency rating?
Air conditioning units use different amounts of energy at different times of day, and they fluctuate again as the seasons change. Seasonal Efficiency is a new way of measuring the energy efficiency of unit's performance, which considers its overall use. It will help to give a more cost-effective picture of a unit's use, as it also factors in periods of inactivity as well as when it's working its hardest.
