In 2024, Llevelo Garden Design did our first RHS Chelsea Flower Show Garden. Working on behalf of disabled children's charity, Panathlon, Llevelo designed the Panathlon Joy Garden. A vibrant, uplifting and colourful space, the Joy Garden included fun, playful and unusual features. The main focal point was the trees which had a curved shaped stems. This was the first time such trees had been displayed at the Chelsea Flower Show. Otherwise known as SWING trees, they were Platanus x hispanica 'Malburg' or 'Plane' trees. These trees were included due to their fun sculptural shape but also as an important representation of Panathlon's aim to normalise difference. The garden had a seating area showcasing the rocking seats that we designed - bright colours intended to spark joy and the gentle rocking action to promote movement and surprise! This area included a space for a wheelchair to park showcasing Panathlon's aim to inspire inclusion. The planting was on undulating mounds which allowed chair users to have a better visual of the plants. Planting was varied in colour and form - lovely soft grasses with roses, peonies, Alliums, Iris' and many many more. Through the centre of the garden was a brick path. This was laid to form a slightly concave shape to create a more fun and joyful walking experience. We also added glitter to the joints for some extra sparkle! This garden was very well received and we were delighted to be awarded the prestigious silver gilt medal.
