What is a Masterplan?

The masterplan is the plan of the garden that describes how the space has been designed to meet your needs and requirements. This will not only give you a sense of how your garden will look but also how it will feel. We use 3D visuals and images to back up this story so you that can actually imagine yourself in your new outside space.

How long might a garden design take to achieve?

We will usually present the Masterplan to you within 8 weeks of carrying out the Site Analysis. The duration of the whole project depends on a number of factors. Lead times for the surveyor, complexity of the design, how long you need to mull over the design before committing to each next stage. Also the lead time of your preferred contractor. Duration from initial enquiry to completion can range from a few months on smaller gardens, through to large schemes that are built in phases that can take years!

Are you on hand when the labour is being carried out?

Yes, if you would like us to project monitor the build for you then we can do this. Should you wish to commission us to Project Monitor, we will have regular site meetings with you and the landscape contractors, and are on the phone and email throughout. We check that our (yours and our) shared vision comes to fruition. We also help troubleshoot any onsite issue, and make any onsite design decisions that may be required. Contractors prefer us to be on hand.

Can I take a look at other gardens you've designed?

We bring a portfolio of previous garden design drawings with us. This portfolio allows you to see what type of drawings you can expect to receive from us. It also shows what level of detail each drawing compromises. We have a project page for you to see images of completed projects. We have many years experience of working on all types of gardens from small courtyards to larger rural gardens, low maintenance family gardens to gardens for retired plants people. Kitchen gardens, swimming pool terraces, riverside gardens, exposed hill gardens - we are proficient in designing for diverse client briefs.

Do you source everything locally in your garden designs?

We aim to source locally where possible. We source plants from local growers and trade nurseries. Sometimes plants will be imported from the continent but we use nurseries that follow biosecurity processes. On occasion a client may want a specalist plant and we may source from a nursery further afield e.g fruit, specimen trees. When we specify materials to our contractors, we endeavour to use local suppliers where available. If landscaping materials are available form local sources we will endevour to use these within our garden designs. We use local fabricators for bespoke garden features. Industry specialists (structural engineers, planning advisors etc) are usually from the local area. Sourcing locally also means we have developed good relationships that ensures an excellent quality of service.

New Simon Scott Landscaping Garden WOW blog about Forests, Woods and Fantastic Fungi Welcome to our new GARDEN WOW list. This one has a particular focus on the beautiful landscapes and ‘natural gardens’ that are the woods and forests around us in Lewes, East Sussex. These places have become even more cherished as spaces of retreat and comfort in 2020 and we have certainly loved soaking up their wonder on long walks this year. In this month’s GARDEN WOW list we highlight the incredible WOW of woods, forests, their systems of communication and their fantastic fungi.
