Yet without this open and honest conversation how can any meaningful discussion take place when planning your dream garden space? Is it driven by fear? That by revealing your project budget will lead to it all being spent unnecessarily when it could be done cheaper? The reality is by discussing how much you want to spend on your garden up front, will shape what's possible! If budget is a concern then the landscaper can then work with you and come up with alternative materials that get as close as possible to your dream space. Or if required reduce the scope to what your actual budget can achieve. If you're unsure ask three/four reputable landscapers to provide quotations, but make sure they're like for like. The cheapest shouldn't be an indication that it's the best quote, so due diligence is important by asking the right questions. How are they going to build it for that price, and exactly what is and isn't included? Inevitably there'll always be some unknows especially with ground work, but nobody wants to find an excessive amount of costs being built up by lots of extras as the job progresses.
