Today I was called to a property in Witham that had a jammed shut UPVC window. This was a tricky one to get open as the locking mechanism had various security features making the window very tight in the frame. What made it even harder was the fact that the window was above a large sink, making it awkward to work on. I deglazed the window which gave me a bit more flex and then I was able to manipulate the locking points and get the window open. Once opened, I found the cause of the problem. The drive gear had come apart at the back, and it was this that had caused the mechanism to seize up. I replaced the mechanism and reglazed the window. Once done it worked as good as new.
