This week we had the pleasure of meeting Frank and his wife, Young, while Frank was waiting to go home. He has been staying on our in-patient unit while we supported him with pain control. Frank has prostate and bone cancer and was an emergency admission from hospital due to leg pain. When he first arrived he was bed bound and couldn’t walk but now, with the support of our team, he has found ways of controlling his pain and his mobility has improved.nnIt was wonderful listening to Frank telling us about his fascinating life. His job in construction took him to places including Jordan, Montserrat in the Caribbean and South Korea where he met his “wonderful wife” Young who worked in politics and also volunteered providing wellbeing support to disabled people.nnSpeaking about his time at St Leonard’s he said: “I’ve had lots of good experiences. I really enjoyed going to the wellbeing sessions on Thursday where I met and chatted to some interesting people. You shouldn’t be nervous about going to a Hospice. People have the idea you are going there to die but they support a lot of people with symptom control. The care is top quality.”nnFrank is now happy to be home with his family and friends but he is missing the Hospice staff!
