Cleaning a slate roof needs special care and attention, and we needed to do some careful planning to make sure this particular job went smoothly. It was in an exclusive development in Feock, down in Cornwall, and the first thing we had to contend with was the really difficult access to the property. To overcome this problem we hired a cherry picker and mobile scaffold tower. We have a lot of experience in dealing with hard-to-access properties, and are fully certificated in the use of cherry pickers for this very reason. The second thing we had to deal with was the cleaning of the roof itself, which suffered from a heavy build-up of black algae. In this case we decided that steam cleaning was the best solution, and we worked closely with the client over several weeks, doing a test patch on an outbuild before starting work on the main building. Our Doff steam cleaning system cleaned the slate roof perfectly, to leave it looking like new, as you can see from the before-and-after images.
