FAQs
Is Alps Electrical's work guaranteed?
Yes, all of our standard electrical work is fully guaranteed for at least 12 months from completion. This includes all labour and parts that we have supplied. It may vary depending upon the type of work which will be detailed in your quotation, however 12 months is always the minimum. Solar PV installation for example comes with a 2 year workmanship warranty.
I'm converting my loft - do I need an Electrical Certificate?
Yes, every type of electrical work requires a certificate. Depending on how the loft is to be wired will depend on the type of certificate required. If the loft is to be wired using new circuits from the fuse board then you will require an E.I. C and we would also notify building control of the changes we have made. If you are simply adding onto existing circuits then a 'minor works' certificate will suffice.
What if my roof does not face south?
Solar can still pay dividends even if your roof is not facing directly due south. Our director Andy has installed Solar on his roof which faces east and so loses the sun around 3 pm, and he has seen up to a 90% reduction in his bills in the first two months. We will discuss all of this in detail with you prior and you will be provided with sufficient information in which to make an informed decision. We do not apply any pressurised sales tactics, infact it is the very opposite at Alps Electrical. We are here to help guide you through the process, and our goal is to help you make the right choice for you. An alternative to solar is just having battery storage and utilising the excellent cheap nightly rates that some electric companies offer such as Octopus Energy.
What size EV charger do I need?
The ideal charger size for the home is 7kw, which would require a 32a supply. Many customers ask if they can have a 22kw charger but this would require a 3-phase supply, which the majority of homes do not have. Commercially we regularly install 22kw chargers or a series of 7kw chargers.
I have noticed there are tethered & untethered options - what does this mean?
Indeed there are two options to go for when purchasing an EV charger. Some brands only offer one, however, the larger brands will offer both. These are 'tethered' and 'untethered'. If there is a charging cable attached to the unit itself, this means it is a tethered unit. If the charging unit has only a socket available for you to plug your own charging cable then this is an untethered unit. The majority of customers seem to opt for the tethered unit, with the main reason being convenience. If it is raining or you are in a hurry you do not have to go into the boot of your car to locate your own cable to plug into the charge point, it is already there for you. Some people prefer the untethered look as it is a little tidier on the wall of your property due to no cables being on display.
