LIFT AND SLIDE DOORS FOR BUDLEIGH SALTERTON’S NEW CRICKET PAVILIONnBACKGROUNDnBudleigh Salterton had to find a new home for its cricket club due to its previous home being subjected to seasonal flooding.nnLess than a mile up-steam the new home maintains views over the River Otter and the South Coast.nnTHE PROJECTnAs well as an increase in the number of pitches the new home features a state of the art clubhouse.nnDesigned by New Space Architecture in consultation with Clinton Devon Estates, a two storey building was created, with a mono-pitch form to reduce its visual presence on the landscape.nnGlazing was used to maximise the views over the cricket grounds and beyond to the river.nnGLAZING PRODUCTSnAluminium glazing was chosen for its contemporary aesthetics, as well as its low maintenance and long lasting characteristics.nnThe cricket club’s first floor features 6 lift and slide doors leading out onto the balcony, which not only ensures the views are maximised, but means the doors can be opened to increase capacity on nice days.nnMatching slim and contemporary windows were used above the sliding doors, creating a whole wall of glass along the side which looks out over the pitches.
