What will happen if my chimney is not swept?
Many things can happen the most common being a build-up of soot, tar and a substance call creosote. These build ups will then reduce the diameter of the chimney. This can happen very quickly when burning any solid fuel. Once the diameter of the chimney is reduced the likelihood of a chimney fire is greatly increased.
Will my home be filled with soot?
No. Although having your chimney swept can be a dirty job, I will take great care NOT to make any mess or any damage. I carry dust sheets and state of the art industrial vacuums designed with safety in mind.
Can I burn any logs in my fire?
No. Only burn seasoned logs in your fire. This is very important. Seasoned logs are logs that have been outside in the elements for at least 1 year. They should then be stored outside for a further year under cover. Seasoning your logs will help you get the best possible results from your fuel. It will also help with the reduction of tar and creosote forming in your chimney.
Where should I buy my logs?
Word of mouth is the best advice for this, ask around. Local established tree surgeons tend to be able to supply good quality logs. Always ask for seasoned logs.
