Do you know what an hourly rate pays for ? How has it been worked it out ? We’ve created a spreadsheet that we use to calculate our hourly rate. We’ve worked it out and review our rates every year, in line with our latest accounts and overheads. We’ve also worked out how productive we are and this is factored into our annual calculations. As can be seen the biggest impact is staff costs, we feel it’s super important everyone working with us is paid well, we want to attract the best. As a small company that mainly works remotely the practice overheads are a bit lower than our marketing budget. If we rented or owned our own studio building I suspect our overheads would be a lot, lot more. This would increase our hourly rate. Overheads covers things like professional indemnity insurance + professional organisation subscriptions, like CIAT + telephone / internet / communications + professional software subscriptions + design guides + IT support costs + accountancy fees + taxes etc… There are other people out there who may be able to provide a similar service [at face value] and are cheaper than us > but are they professionally qualified ? + insured ? + highly experienced ? > able to provide the best solution that suits you and your circumstances which in turn provides good value ?
