Professional Custom Cabinet Makers in Leeds

You’ve no doubt seen me use a branding iron with my logo before, but for larger pieces that I’m proud of I’ll always try to sign my name. Sometimes I laser engrave it, but usually I’ll hand write it somewhere hidden. This is called a “Makers Mark” and is traditional with handmade furniture, art and jewellery. It’s main purpose is to prove the piece’s authenticity, which can also help future collectors value it. For me though, I just love the idea of someone finding my furniture 50 years from now and getting a little buzz when they realise it’s a piece of history. Maybe they’ll look up my name, or what was happening in the world at that time, and talk to their kids about the old days. Who knows, maybe I’ll be famous enough that it finds itself in a museum or an auction! Although I think a car boot sale is more likely 😅 I’ve always loved finding other people’s marks so I believe it’s worth taking pride in your own work and signing it with your own seal of approval.
