How a painting cost a customer £155! We recently got an emergency call out on a Friday evening from a customer who had lost the power to all their sockets… After a little bit of investigating we narrowed the fault down to a socket in the kitchen. Looking into the back of the socket nothing seemed untoward… connections were fine. Until I looked up… And right above this socket was a painting. I asked the customer “how long has this painting been up?” They replied “around 2 hours…” “Ah…” I said. The hanging pin had pierced the cable and had gone straight into the neutral conductor. Never hang stuff or drill into the wall directly above, below or next to an electrical accessory as there’s potential for the cables to run in those zones!
