This gives an approximate location to avoid hitting them when cutting with a hole sawn🏠 - Always check which way the roof pitches. This will give you an idea of which way the joists run (the ones in the emoji will go left to right) and again helps you avoid themn🟢 - Couldn't find an emoji for a laser but they are a must when fitting downlights. Mine is an Huepar and it's awesome.
