Grandfather Clock Oak Hood Restoration Here is a recent example of our work. This early 18th century oak long case clock hood came in for restoration without the rest of the clock as this was broken by a removal company. Round mouldings of this sort are very hard to reproduce partly because they were scratched with a blade to the profile - known as a scratch stock. The blade is a right angled device like a set square with a slit in it that makes the profile. The timber is cut to the shape and then scratched. The replaced wood then has to be stained, coloured and aged to match the original old wood. Below you can see the hood after the restoration job has been completed.
