Is my loft suitable for conversion?

As a guideline from the existing floor timbers to the highest point of the underside of the ridge you will need around 2.6m, anything over this works to your advantage. Further space can be added by creating a dormer window. You can also create a gable end from a hipped roof.

Do I need to find my own architect?

An architect is required to make sure structural calculations and other technicalities are done in order to guarantee your new loft conversion is safe. If you haven't already done so A.P.M. & Sons can offer this as part of your quote.

Will I need Planning Permission for my loft conversion?

Most loft conversions fall under what is known as Permitted Development and so Planning Permission is not required. However there are exceptions and we will be able to advise you on this. We can also sort out all the necessary paperwork on your behalf. Contact Us to arrange your consultation and we can advise further on this.

How long will the conversion take?

This depends on the type of conversion but it can take around eight weeks for a simple Velux conversion or up to twelve weeks for a dormer conversion with en-suite. A time scale can be given at the time of a quote.

How much mess will there be?

Access to the loft is made via a scaffold so that as little disruption as possible is made to the remainder of the house. As with any building work there will be noise, some disruption and mess but we pride ourselves on keeping this to an absolute minimum
