Why do honeybee’s swarm? This is the time to see honey bee’s swarming; its nothing to be alarmed about as this is the natural process of a honeybee colony reproducing. What you’re seeing is the Queen, along with a large number of workers taking up and leaving the old colony, this will now be under the control of a younger, new Queen and the travellers set off to find themselves a new location to start their colony. The bee’s have gorged themselves on the honey stores from the old hive and so they’re not that active, the swarm will land someplace like a random bush and wait while a few scouts forage for a suitable location. They aren’t wasps and they pose little or no risk, the grouping is all centred around the Queen because she needs to be protected. We’ve had a lot of calls for bees’ swarms and we will not treat them, please don’t ring pest control companies as many will happily destroy the swarm for money and that is something that doesn’t need to happen, nor should it at all.
