A Conservation Area is an area within a local borough that is designated as being of special character and architectural value, considered worthy of preservation or enhancement. If you live in a Conservation Area you must obtain permission from the Local Authority before any work can be carried out. This process can take up to 8 weeks to obtain.

A Tree Preservation Order or TPO is a part of town and country planning in the United Kingdom. It exists to protect specific trees or a particular area, group or woodland from deliberate damage and destruction. Trees with a Tree Preservation Order are specially selected for their beauty, position, history and value to the local area. As such, the Local Authority mark them on a plan and have a number in a schedule. If trees on your property have Preservation Orders on them, you can still carry out work on them but you will need to obtain permission from the Local Authority before and this can take time to obtain.
