Regulations introduced last year mean changes to the rules about smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in Wales. Fitting them is a legal requirement for landlords - it could also save your tenant’s life. The regulations say you need a hard-wired alarm on every storey of the property. You should check them regularly and make sure you fit the right model that conforms to British Standard. You need to install carbon monoxide alarms in rooms with a solid fuel burning appliance and heat detectors for kitchens are recommended. Read more about smoke alarm rules in our Q&A.
